Hi, my group is looking into non petroleum boating options. We had just a few questions:
      1) How fast do the petroleum boats run?
      2) What motors are currently in use?
      3) How far do they travel at a single time?

      Thankyou.

        Hi Lauren,

Good to see your group is looking into non petroleum boating options. There is some information in regards to your questions in a previous forum post – see Current Boating Framework on Saibai Island.

The types of boats used on Saibai Island can vary based on their intended use and availability. Common types may include traditional dugout canoes, motorised dinghies, and fishing boats. Where exact data isn’t available, it is okay for you to make some reasonable assumptions.

It’s worth noting that the Torres Strait Island communities are a seafaring people, often traveling between islands and Papua New Guinea. You’ll be able to map out distances and make some calculated assumptions to support your design!

        Cheers,
        Anthony
