My Group is doing 6.5 and our estimates of how much water storage needed for the dry season is wildy large with a really rough estimate at 8.7 million Litres, by going off water usage from other parts of Queensland, the dry season being roughly 180 days long and an estimated population of the Port Stewart settlements based off the population of Coen of around 200. We also don’t know how people are split between the Main base, Lower Camp and Upper Camp
Can we get a rough population number and spread along with an estimate of amount of water consumed per person so we can get a much more realistic amount of water needed for the wet season?
      Kind Regards,

        Hi Claude,

Thank you for your question. I have been in contact with Mihir, our Senior Manager of our First Nations Program at EWB. He was involved in the scoping of the Port Stewart Challenge. His response:

The population number 200 is very high. Total population at Port Stewart is around 30-40. Since the lower camp impacted by flooding no one stays at the lower camp. Entire population is staying at main base and Upper camp and other camps (Silver Plain & Running Creek).

While, I do not have exact numbers for water usage per person, it should be noted that water usage is much lower than in other areas of Northern Queensland.

        I hope this helps.

        Kind regards,
        Evelyn
