Community preferences for water usage ad storage

Hi,
What are the local/community preferences and practices for their water use, storage and handling? And what are their expectations around safety and control of water resources?

I guess I’m just wondering if there’s anything I’ve missed other than regular easy access to clean drinking water and other daily uses – hygiene, food practices, tourism, and operational tasks?
I don’t want to assume.

Thank you for your question and it’s great to see you challenging your assumptions.

What you’ve noted down – easy access to clean drinking water – is definitely something that the community values in Port Stewart. As you have probably already read in Design Area 6 the rainwater harvesting tank that holds drinking water isn’t currently connected to households in Upper and Lower Camp so community members are required to fill up buckets or tanks manually from the one outlet at the Ranger Base.

With the water that gets extracted from the Stewart River, there are water quality concerns with the high iron content. Conversations with community revealed a mix of responses. Some still drink the water and note that they haven’t noticed any drastic differences in taste or health concerns. Other people are concerned about the health consequences/colour and wouldn’t consider it safe for their children to consume.
