I have a few quick questions about the Lama Lama ranger program at Port Stewart:

What communication devices do rangers currently use when on Country,do they carry satellite phones, Garmin inReach devices, or similar?
Is there any Starlink or fixed satellite internet (SkyMuster) available at the Port Stewart ranger base?
Is there any existing energy monitoring infrastructure on the solar systems at Port Stewart, or do rangers currently have no visibility into system performance?

Any information would be really helpful for grounding our design proposal in the real situation in the country. Thank you!

        Hi Suyog,

The Rangers currently use a combination of satellite and radio-based communication systems. Ranger camps are equipped with Starlink satellite internet connections, enabling reliable access to internet.
In addition, Ranger vehicles such as four-wheel drives are fitted with VHF (Very High Frequency) radios which are the primary communication tools used while travelling on Country. VHF enables real-time communication ensuring safety, coordination of field activities and rapid response to emergency situations.
For your solar systems query, I am still waiting on a response from our community partners but will keep you posted when I find out.

        I hope this helps!

        Kind regards,
        Evelyn
