Our project aims to supply power to the 50% of villagers without access to the grid, as preliminary estimates show that the power demand would be quite high if we were to supply to all the villagers. We aim to combine solar panels and a pico-hydro system to provide energy supply all year round. We decided to estimate the energy consumption of the village via car batteries as according to design area 4, “commonly available 12V lead acid car batteries are used for lamps and other power needs”. Radios are also the primary method of communication so we decided include those in our energy consumption calculations as well.
