      Hi everyone,
Design opportunity 6.3 (Alternatives to Traditional Firewood) states that the desired outcome is to “reduce the need for burning of wood and water usage, protecting these critical natural resources.”

The reduction of wood fuel usage is a clear objective for why it would be desirable; however, I am unsure as to why water is also included here, as it is Energy and ICT, when there is a separate topic for water and the access and quality of it.

How is water used in this specific situation? Is it in the management of the fire itself, in the actual cooking process, or some third option I have not considered?

Thank you all for your assistance!

I was going to ask the same question but i wanted to add. Is water used to put out small fires that are caused by cooking over open fire?

          Hi Simeon and Clancy,

          Thank you for your questions.

I believe you’re both correct in that water is used for the management of cooking fires. I understand that there may be some confusion with the wording of that sentence. It may be helpful to think of it as “how can we reduce the need for burning wood and as an indirect result, reduce the water needed to manage these fires.”

          I hope this helps!

          Kind regards,
          Evelyn
