Hi Korina,

Thanks for your questions about the use of chemical herbicides in Yirrganydji Country. After speaking with Dawul Wuru, they have indicated that as an organisation this wasn’t an area that they were interested in pursuing, although they had undertaken some training in this. They have also looked into natural herbicides (eg steam) but they haven’t trialled it yet. They also mentioned that biological control methods (management of a pest through the use of their natural enemies) is something that they would be interested in learning about, in particular if native species were used to attack invasive species. 

Currently, their weeding process is mostly manual, physically removing the weeds by hand.
