Hello Richard,
Thanks for letting us know what project opportunity you’re trying to address. Again, information is limited, given the nature of the privately owned and operated asset but here is some additional thoughts to help you (and your group).
1. What information is collected on the Telstra Telecom Tower for maintenance that can be accessed by onsite personnel? (e.g power supply, network traffic or cell coverage)
It’s common for information to be collected via Telstra towers, including operational, environmental, and user interaction data. We encourage your team to research this for yourselves and see what you can come up with, to support your design solution.
2. How frequently is monitoring data collected and synchronized (are the right people outside the island able to access the data, without needing to be on site)?
You can assume that data is accessible in real-time, collected and synchronised as part of Telstra’s OSS/BSS (operations support system and business support system). This is accessible for remote staff that are based out of Cairns and other major city centres.
3.Has there been any damages severe enough to render the tower unable to function throughout its lifetime?
Yes, network outages and lack of reliability due to terrain, geography and severe weather are common. TSIRC have commenced mobilising Starlink satellite systems to address this issue.
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Anthony
