Which project for the Lama Lama group should we choose for design area 1: infrastructure and access, focus area 1.5 Materials and Construction Approaches for Remote Settings?

What does this area of EWB actually mean?

        Hi Micaela,

Thank you for your query. I’ve passed this onto our scoping partners and hope to clarify this design opportunity for you. Your patience is greatly appreciated!

        Kind regards,
        Evelyn

          Hi Micaela,

For Design Area 1.5 there a couple of directions you could take.
          1. In terms of construction approaches, your team may look at the challenges at play when working in the specific context of Port Stewart (e.g. remoteness, climate, availability of materials). Then you could potentially look at case studies in similar areas and research what has worked well in those areas and assess if they could be applied to the Port Stewart context. You may decide to produce a framework that engineers can use when they’re implementing solutions.

          2. Another approach to this design area could be to hone in on a specific structure that exists in Port Stewart. Then you could look at ways in which components of the structure could be improved or more easily designed. The continuity of functions of the infrastructure needs to be a priority.

These are only ideas and you may interpret the opportunity differently which is more than welcome! Overall, materials and construction approaches will be critical in terms of long term sustainability of the solutions proposed.

          I hope this helps.

          Kind regards,
          Evelyn
