I just had some questions associated with the Loidahar Village in Timor Leste. My group is aiming to solve 5.4, Post Harvest Storage Solutions.

Where are the farms usually located at the village? I’m aware on the mountain, but where exactly coordinate wise and respective to the village’s location? If you can’t provide, an answer to where they’re located relatively to the village and/or the market.

How are the farmers current storage system like? What materials are used and how much space do they take? How are the crops stored?

Is the post harvest losses from the way the crops are stored or from the climate? Or maybe from the transport from the farm to the city?

      Thank you for your time

        Hi Tobi (and team),

Loidahar, much like other rural communities in Timor-Leste are agricultural based.

All families have their own farms, and are dotted around the village along the mountainous terrain. You can view a typical storage system in the 360 interactives (360 Agriculture and Videos).

Post harvest losses are generally attributed to unsuitable storage conditions (climate, pests) and poor market linkages and connections to understand demands and opportunities (e.g. the farmer we interviewed had two 1kg bags of cacao beans that we had trouble selling).

        Hope that helps.

        Cheers,
        Anthony
