According to the Energy & ICT page, “Over 90% of households cook on open wood fires,” even though “electricity supply is reliable in Loidahar, with high-voltage overhead powerlines and individual legal supply to households observed.”

Do the people of Loidahar village choose to cook on open wood fires because they prefer it (e.g because allows them to cook in a more traditional style), or are they forced to cook on open wood fires because they cannot afford electric stoves (or gas-powered stoves and fuel)?

        Hi Grayson,

        Thank you for your query.

The decision to cook on open wood fires can be a combination of the reasons you provided above. Additionally, households may decide to use electricity for other small tasks and stick to wood fires for cooking as it is may be perceived as more reliable than gas stoves.

        Hope this helps.

        Kind regards,
        Evelyn
