      Hello,
Given that Ergon Energy are solely responsible for the maintenance of the powerstation, Do they have onsite engineers/technicians for when power outages occur, or are these remote and have to travel to the island when these outages occur. Otherwise are the Islanders able to maintain and upgrade their own infrastructure?
      Thanks

        Hi Mina,

Ergon Energy are the nominated power authority for Saibai Island and are responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the electrical infrastructure. They are also the only body able to authorise or perform major upgrades, high-voltage (HV) or non-routine maintenance activities. They do not have engineers/technicians on the island and have to travel to/from the mainland for any works pertaining to these tasks.

Due to strict electrical safety and AS3000 requirements, unqualified or unskilled person(s) anywhere in Australia are unable to perform any electrical works.
For minor maintenance activities however, the Torres Strait communities will typically have someone who is suitably qualified and experienced in dealing with routine tasks. These are locals, are based on their island communities and work as part time resources.

        Hope that helps.

        Cheers,
        Anthony
