Question (Rayane Boudaoud)
Dear Anthony Brady and team, this is Rayane from streamline Enginering. We are currently partaking in the EWB challenge for Saibai island, specifically greywater management. Our current design solution that we plan to implement involves using reed beds to filter grey water. We have looking into the native flora of Saibai Island, and we have noticed that there is a severe lack of information on this. Currently we plan to use a plant suited to small reedbeds and which is also native to Australia, Papua New Guinea as well as the surrounding islands in the Torres Strait archipelago as we assume that a plant native to such regions has a high chance of growing on Saibai as well. However, we do not what to act on assumption and potentially introduce a new species into the region. Considering this can you give us insight into some of the native reeds on Saibai island that are suitable for small scale reedbeds.
Kind regards, Streamline Engineering.

Hello Rayane (and team)
Biosecurity is a major factor when considering nature-based design solutions, so it’s great that your team are factoring this in to your concept.
This is a great water sensitive urban design (WSUD) approach to greywater management and we’re interested to see how your idea develops.
Here is a link to a comprehensive resource to help you research your solution
