Dear EWB

I believe there is currently insufficient information to provide a design solution for problem 6.5 without making many assumptions and extensive guesswork.

If it is possible, could you provide a map showing where, and specifications of – the existing 250,000 litre Aqualine rainwater tank and the elevated water towers storing water from the river. This is required so our team can identify if any improvements to the system can be made. If possible, this also extends to the location and specifications of the broken iron filter and water pump for the river water system.

Also, you mention that the 80mm HDPE pipe providing water to the community is leaking. Could you provide a current map plan or even a rudimentary mud map showing where this pipeline is located and where it goes? This is critical if we decide to improve the current pipeline. This would exactly answer how much piping length is required for our design and which installations it serves.

Currently, like Tarah in the other post, our team is not sure how to maximise the wet-season harvest in conjunction with the current installations without this information.

I understand this information may take time to gather. Alternatively, could you provide the contact details of the contractors who conducted these installations so I can get data from them?

In addition, could we have information on which building serves as the central YAC office? On Google Earth, we can’t pinpoint which building you are talking about.
You mention that this building houses the water treatment for the Aqualine tank. What is the model or the specs of this on-site treatment facility?

“The tank is monitored remotely via a solar-powered FarmBot system that tracks water levels and system performance.” – If possible, can we acquire the historical records of this system?

You’ll be able to see the main ranger office (this is the central YAC office) which is right beside the 250,000L tank in Port Stewart. The 80mm leaking main runs over the mesh fence enclosure (refer to River Intake blue location dots).

Unfortunately we’re unable to share contractor or technical specifications. The Hybrid Plus UV filtration and treatment system only treats the water coming out of the 250,000L tank and can be accessed inside the main ranger office via the taps – this is not enough to support wider community who are spread out across vast tracts of land and sea Country.

This is a low resource environment with very little information and data – you’ll need to be comfortable with the idea of working with assumptions, to be flexible and adaptable. These are one of the core learning outcomes of the EWB Challenge.
