Hi team i have been assigned the role of community engagement specialist in my team for the challenge, in line with respectful engagement with the community our team prioritized gaining community input before any high level designs where presented. I was hoping we could have a contact resource from the EWB team to present our ideas to the TSIRC and to receive advice on culturally sensitive areas and feedback on the practicality of the designs ideas presented.

        Hi Darryl

Unfortunately we don’t allow students or academics to engage directly with community – we have 10,000 University students plus dozens of academics who do the EWB Challenge each year and our community partners don’t have the time or resources to engage with everyone.

Community engagement and how you incorporate inclusive design are key learning outcomes for participants, but in practice you can achieve this by

        1. Listening and considering what community and TSIRC shared in the recent Insights Event https://ewbchallenge.org/challenge/saibai-island-tsirc/resources/

        2. Checking your design concept against these considerations https://ewbchallenge.org/challenge/saibai-island-tsirc/design-considerations/

By doing this, it’s the next best thing in how you can achieve “community engagement”.

        Kind regards
