My uni shared useful notes on an interview that Sai Rupa Dev, EWB Challenge Series Lead, did which covers different aspects of life on Saibai Island such, but I cant find the original source to reference.

Would it be possible for someone to direct me to the source please?

        Hi William,

Sorry for the delay in response. Do you know the name of the specific resource material? I wonder if you’re pertaining to the recorded Introductory Presentation for students that’s available in our Resources section.

        Regards,
        Jean

I’m working on a project to improve the road system on Saibai Island by utilizing tire-derived cylinders for stabilization. Are there existing stockpiles of waste tires on the island, or is there a significant number of end-of-life tires available locally? If not, what are the logistical considerations and potential expenses involved in importing waste tires from nearby regions, such as Queensland?
Any insights into local waste management practices or regulatory requirements would be greatly appreciated.

            Hi Lubuto,

Good to know that you’re interested in using waste tyres as raw material for your composite material design. Yes, there are existing piles of waste tyres on the island. If you haven’t checked, please refer to the Gallery section of Design Area 1 – Waste Management.

In our design brief, we’ve highlighted the challenges of managing waste on Saibai island, coupled with tight biosecurity regulations. Make sure to check out our Additional Information (suggested readings) on the Design Area 1 – Waste Management page.

            I hope this helps!

            Regards,
            Jean
