Hello, I’m planning on a design which is to build a small ICT hub in the center of Loidahar village. However, I did some research and saw that Loidahar village is currently in the wet season, which may occurs several flash floods and landslide. What I thought was it is almost impossible to build something like that during this season, or it may cost a lots to maintain everything during the design phase. And it takes too long to wait until the dry season to build the hub.

I want to ask a few specific questions about the weather there:
      – How frequency are the disasters to happen?
      – How do local teams usually manage construction or installation during the wet season?
      – Which parts of Loidahar are most affected to flooding and landslide, and are there any safe zones for storing materials when start the building?
      – Are there any flat, accessible areas (maybe the village center?) suitable to build a small construction?

      Thank you very much!

        Hello Nam

Based on EWBs project work in Timor-Leste, we only perform construction work in the dry season.

For the purposes of your design, you can assume that construction of your ICT hub can be built in the dry season.

Landslides occur frequently during the wet season. Your ICT hub is a great idea and perhaps is best positioned on high points (e.g. in Mankolohata, where the village centre and administration office is located).

Other things to consider in your design
        – Will one hub be enough to provide connectivity to all four sub-villages?
        – If not, could you have one ICT hub in each sub-village?
        – What foundations are needed to ensure that the hub building is elevated above ground level and provides a flat surface?
        – Consider electrical, maintenance requirements
        – How will your ICT hub be impacted by the dense vegetation and mountainous terrain?
