      Hello,
My group is focusing on rainwater treatment and I was wondering if there was any data on the percentage of households with rainwater collection units in Saibai Island and their type and average capacity.

      Thanks,
      Taspia

        Hello Taspia (and team!),

Based on our discussions with our community contact on Saibai Island earlier today, many households across island communities have their own rainwater tanks (assume 30-40% of homes do). These are typically 5000L poly tanks with no filters.

When there is an occasional outbreak of illness (usually diarrheal based illness) in the local school, this is attributed to poor quality water from the rainwater tanks. The school reverts to imported fresh water supply from the local store.

The Saibai Island community would benefit greatly from well designed water filtration solutions, so it’s great that your group is investigating this.

        Cheers,
        Anthony
