      1) How does the local weather extremes affect the electricity supply and grid power on Saibai Island? Hence, is it reliable for the natural energy source of the refrigerator to depend on the local grid power station after its conversion to electricity. Or there should be an alternative route for the delivery of renewable energy resources such as solar power?

      2) Where is the most suitable location geographically on Saibai Island to install a low cost and energy refrigerator system? Please provide ideas of the possible benefits and disadvantages of installing it on the location?

        Hi Swati,

Its great to be curious about a range of factors that will potentially impact your design and the questions your asking are great. We really encourage that students – as part of the Challenge – conduct their own research and make reasonable assumptions based on what they uncover. This applies not only for the Challenge but is common practice in industry too.

On an island like Saibai, where local weather extremes exist, having alternative sources of energy is likely going to be a good option – where possible.

In terms of suitable locations, this is for you to decide and justify your choice by weighing up the possible benefits and disadvantages. You should consider material access, ease of installation, maintenance, local skills, product lifecycle (noting that waste is a major challenge on the Island).

        Hope that helps.

        Cheers,
        Anthony
