      Hi there,

Does EWB have a contact at Telstra that we are able to reach out to in regards to telecommunications on Saibai Island, as they use Telstra as their main service provider.

      Thank you and Kind regards,

        Hi India,

As part of our agreement with community, we ask that students do not attempt to contact the community partner or related organisations.

Are you able to please share with us what you would like to know and we can help you from there.

        Cheers,
        Anthony

          Hi Anthony,

          Thank you for your reply,

My team and I were trying to gauge an understand of how we could make of use of Telstra’s service to implement an early warning system through the use of an emergency alert to all mobile phones on Saibai Island.

If possible we would like to know:
          – The capabilities of Telstra on Saibai Island
          – What the budget might look like
          – Any disaster resilience or community partnerships Telstra is involved in that could be relevant to remote locations
          – Whether Telstra offers any additional services or solutions that could enhance emergency notifications and communication for communities like Saibai Island

          I appreciate your prompt response.
          Thank you and kind regards,
          India Lilienthal

            Hi India,

We encourage you and the team to have a read/listen of these helpful resources

The capabilities of Telstra on Saibai Island
Much like Ergon Energy (power authority for the Torres Strait Islands), some trades live on the Island communities but for major works and faults, these resources need to come from the mainland.

What the budget might look like
This depends on your design idea. Major infrastructure upgrades, new communications assets will be impacted by requirements such as Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUA), and significant costs.

Any disaster resilience or community partnerships Telstra is involved in that could be relevant to remote locations
Telstra are involved in initiatives such as the ADM+S / Telstra ‘Mapping the Digital Gap’. For their interface with disaster resilience, refer to the resources above but remember that they are an asset authority and not responsible for disaster management.

Whether Telstra offers any additional services or solutions that could enhance emergency notifications and communication for communities like Saibai Island
Great question. Some independent research may yield some results to help shape your designs!

            Hope that helps!

            Cheers,
            Anthony
