      Hi,

I know that Saibai Island previously burned waste but stopped due to health concerns. However, I’m wondering if they have made any other attempts at reducing waste through other initiatives.

      Thank you.

        Hi Derek,

Yes, they stopped burning waste a few years ago. At the moment, whatever’s written on the design brief is what they are currently doing to manage waste. To our knowledge, TSIRC has pending grant applications to address their waste problems on a larger scale. You can read more details on their website.

        I hope this helps.

        Regards,
        Jean

          Hi Jean,

By burnin waste do you mean paper and cardboard? if so whats the current solution that was implemented to stop burning waste?

          Thanks,
          Gavin

            Hi Gavin,

Their previous practice of burning waste is not just limited to paper and cardboard, but for all combustible waste.

The community heavily depend on their landfill facility. In our brief – Design Area 1 – Waste Management, you will find more information about the existing waste facilities and the waste management processes currently implemented.

            I hope that helps.

            Regards,
            Jean
