Also as part of our investigation, we are looking at whether locally available materials could be used for construction and ongoing maintenance to reduce the need to transport large quantities of material from Coen or Cairns.
We understand that gravel from Lama Lama Country is currently supplied to Cook Shire Council for road formation and maintenance. Could you provide any further information about the types of gravel or other road-building materials that are available locally, where these materials are generally sourced, and how they are currently extracted and transported?
Are there any limitations on using these local materials for larger road or river-crossing works, such as availability, suitable quantities, material quality, environmental considerations or cultural restrictions?
From the Rangers’ and community’s perspective, would using locally sourced materials for construction and future maintenance be preferred where they are technically suitable and culturally appropriate?
