Hi William,
Thank you for your query. I’ve had another student ask me a similar question. Here was my answer:
“Unfortunately, there is no quantitative data in regards to tourists numbers. Our team also had the same question when we were up there a few weeks ago, but there is no formal tracking of tourist numbers.
When we were at Port Stewart (on a Wednesday), there were about 3-5 visitors fishing/camping at Safari Camp. From conversations with the Rangers at Port Stewart, there are visitors every weekend and more so in the dry season as the roads are more accessible. I would make the assumption of less than 10 tourists a week – varying from week to week of course. The Rangers also noted that it becomes more busy during the holiday periods with families coming up. I hope that this information is useful and that you can make estimations from this.”
Popular tourists destinations on Lama Lama are Running Creek and Port Stewart. At these locations there are established camping grounds and bathroom facilities. From conversations I’ve had with the Rangers, there is an aspiration of creating camping grounds at Marina Plains.
I hope this is helpful.
Kind regards,
Evelyn
